New York, NY (November 19, 2010)– When Ted Baker, the “man to know” in fashion, decided to open a second location in New York City, he knew it had to be as fashionable and eclectic as his label – enter The Meatpacking District.
Once home to unsightly warehouses and packing plants, the neighborhood’s transformation to the preeminent destination for luxury boutiques, high-end clubs and restaurants, made the location feel organic and logical as the next step for the Ted Baker label. Opening on November 23, 2010, the store will encompass an impressive 2,500 sq ft retail space on Little West 12th Street. Reflecting the district’s unique industrial aesthetic, the store will combine the rawness of exposed brick and subway-tiled walls with the softness of traditional English antique curiosities. The result is a completely conceptual retail space, unexpected and unlike anything Ted has unveiled before.
Featuring reclaimed wooden flooring with steel inlays to suggest the tracks of a packing plant as well as a washed out color scheme with hints of red, white and blue, the store allows Ted’s luxurious and playful Autumn/Winter 2010 collection to take center stage.
“With the opening of the second Ted Baker Manhattan location, I am excited not only for the opportunity to expand the brand’s reach within the United States, but also, for the chance to further showcase our fun, cheeky attitude,” said Ray Kelvin, Founder and CEO. “Its playful detailing and unwavering attention-to-detail, including effects from my very own collection, will allow guests to the Meatpacking store to act as both consumers of our unique wares and voyeurs into the Ted Baker lifestyle.”
Drawing on the personality and personal effects of its namesake, the Ted Baker store contains seven large-scale wooden crates lined with bespoke, quilted leather interiors which take the place of traditional store fixtures. Inside, all of Ted’s beloved items have been packed carefully by his butlers and transported to Manhattan. New Yorkers may have spotted Ted’s very own moving firm, Ted Baker & Sons, in the vicinity of 34 Little West 12th Street recently – a more refined team of sturdy gentlemen, proficient in the art of moving Ted and his possessions around the globe, will not be found. Belongings alluding to various aspects of Ted’s life – from cricket bats and fishing rods to gardening tools and wildlife taxidermy specific to Great Britain – fill the wooden crates to encompass all of Ted’s favorite hobbies, ensuring that he retains the comfort of home while settling into his newest milieu.
An installation of glass chandeliers from Ted’s home have been broken and reassembled in a patchwork manner, alluding to a mysterious event in transit. With more unexpected touches to surprise and delight, including a glass cash desk filled with vintage apothecary bottles, Ted cannot wait to move in to the neighborhood.
